514 DAYS AND 43,000 MILES AND 18 COUNTRIES! WE ARE BACK IN CHICAGO.
THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO SUPPORTED US ALONG THE WAY AND WE HOPE THIS WEBSITE IS USEFUL TO OTHERS WHO WANT TO DO THE SAME TRIP. I WILL ADD MORE INFORMATION WHEN WE ARE SETTLED BACK IN  .... SEPTEMBER 2009

Five years later and we have finally decided to ditch working life and reality again and take another year out. It all started about a year and a half ago driving back from a camping trip in Wisconsin. We passed a campervan for sale on the side of the road and thought that would be a great way to travel America. At the time we were talking about our wedding plans and what we should do. It was going to be hard to have a small affair in Ireland without offending someone and if we went the whole hog it would cost a fortune. So we thought about how much we could do with the same money that one day would cost. Plus we both really want to travel South America before we have to settle down and be sensible. So, the cogs started turning and by time we got back to Chicago we had decided that the wedding was postponed and we were going to drive to Argentina.

While we were travelling before in Asia and Australia, both of us can pretty much remember every day so clearly, where we were, what we ate, who we met. Although it was only six months it seemed like a year. Time slowed down and we enjoyed every day to its full without having to worry about all the silly things that get us stressed out on a daily basis. We definitely appreciated the little things when we came back and swore when we got back that we wouldn’t get caught up again in this chaotic materialistic world. But it’s hard to live in America and not get sucked in. Although we have been happy in our work and daily life the last five years have gone so quickly we feel it is time to slow it down again while we can. We can’t even remember what we did last the last few summers or christmases or thanksgivings let alone what we did every day.

So here we go again to remembering every day like it was yesterday!

We will be posting blogs and pictures as we go along so stay tuned.
